This version of Benny’s Bugle follows less than two weeks after the studio recordings of the same tune. The sextet is simulating a live broadcast but now they are unfettered by the studio restrictions and they turn it into a wonderfully swingin’ soiree. Another chorus has been added to the routine since the studio date.

The trumpet intro is followed by twelve bars of theme riffs which the ensemble carries over into the first chorus of Charlie Christian’s solo then drop out during the second chorus as Charles continues backed by the rhythm section. The guitar solo is free-wheeling and inspired from start to finish. Amazing solo by Charles – one of his best fast blues solos with the sextet.

The transcription (without tab) of the last three choruses of riffs is a composite rendering.
