I.   THE HARLEM RECORDINGS from “MINTON’S PLAYHOUSE” and MONROE’S “THE UPTOWN HOUSE”

The first Charlie Christian album ever released was in May 1947 on a 78-rpm, 3-record set as Vox VSP 302 “Charlie Christian Memorial Album” which can be viewed in The 78-rpm Records section on this site.

The Vox label had just been bought four months earlier by chemical-industry magnate, Henry Reichhold, from the original 1945 founder.  Reichhold assigned Larry Green and Bill Simon to bring this album together for one of his first releases.  The two selections on the album had been bought from Jerry Newman who had recorded them on location at Minton's Playhouse.
